In 1999 we cleanded for the first time not only our part of the beach, we also cleaned the whole neighborhood. More than 350 students, 30 teachers and 20 parents were involved in this project. After we had   finished, we knew:

"Together we make the difference"

Caroline Jochum, a student of our school, reports:

Village cleaning

On Friday before our Easter holidays we had a project day. The topic was "To pick up all kinds of trash". And that wasn’t the only assignment. We also had to count the pieces, which we had put into the garbage bags. We separated the trash into plastic, glass, textiles, metal, paper and aluminum.

Our class searched the area by a river. You can imagine that it was a mess. Mostly we found beer cans. It was disgusting! Our handcart lorry stank of beer.

But on this day we also had a lot of fun. The greatest discovery was a moped. Not a normal moped, oh no! It hadn’t got a wheel and it hadn’t got a motor! Thank God we had a handcart lorry with us!

When we came back to our school again, we had to weigh our trash bags. Our trash bags were really heavy because of our great discovery. After this we got a small snack.

I think this project is a very good idea. On this day we could see, how much trash is thrown away only in our village.
